Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes stepped up his injury recovery with 45 minutes for the Gunners‘ Under-23s on Friday.
The 23-year-old has been recovering from a knee injury, which caused him to miss the Olympics with Brazil as well as Arsenal’s pre-season.
However, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta was able to provide a positive update about Gabriel on Thursday.

“He’s getting closer,” the Spaniard said in his pre-match press conference. “He’s had a couple of sessions with the team.
“But we don’t know – let’s see tomorrow how he is.”
As it turned out, Gabriel was in line to feature for Arsenal’s U23s against Spurs in Premier League 2 action.
Indeed, Kevin Betsy not only named the £23.1million man in his starting XI but made him captain.
Gabriel put in a solid display and got 45 minutes under his belt before coming off, seemingly a planned substitution.
The Gunners didn’t concede while he was on the pitch either.
Here is what some Arsenal fans were saying about Gabriel on Twitter:
Arsenal fell behind on 50 minutes as Alfie Devine put Tottenham in front.
However, Kido Taylor-Hart – a player tipped for great things – turned the game around with a brace.
And Omari Hutchinson, another incredibly talented youngster, provided both of the assists.
