Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was on the bench for Liverpool as they beat Tottenham 2-0 in Madrid on Saturday to clinch their sixth Champions League title.
The former Arsenal midfielder, who joined the Reds for a reported (BBC) £35 million in 2017, has been sidelined with injury for pretty much the whole season, but was able to join in the celebrations.
He said: “As former Gooners, we know what that one meant to all the Arsenal fans out there. It was massive for us at Liverpool, but ‘once a Gooner always a Gooner’ – that’s what they say.
“I had a personal sort of feeling in that game that we needed to get that done for all the people I left at Arsenal. I know they were all willing us on to win that one so I’m happy that we could do it.”
And the Arsenal fans took to Twitter to praise the England international midfielder and bemoan the fact that Unai Emery doesn’t have him at his disposal now – having been sold by predecessor Arsene Wenger.
The Gunners fans loved the comments and would dearly love to have Chamberlain in their ranks next season, not least because Aaron Ramsey is leaving on a free to join Juventus this summer…
Imagine him with his engine in our static midfield, would have been a worthy Ramsey replacement 🤷♂️ I think Emery would have liked him an would have played a 3 man midfield with the Ox,torreira n Ramsey – high intensity midfield

You can’t begrudge a player leaving Arsenal when Kroenke has not put a penny into the club..
