Arsenal were the better team in the first half of last night’s Europa League final but it was their former striker Olivier Giroud who swung the match in Chelsea’s favour early in the second period.
His bullet diving header looked to shatter Arsenal’s confidence and set the tone for the Blues to clinch the silverware at a canter with a 4-1 victory.
Giroud embarked on a reasonably muted celebration during the match, but afterwards, footage appeared on Twitter (CFC Daily) of the Frenchman shouting ‘thank you Arsenal’, while laughing with the trophy and his team-mates.
The World Cup winner was never fully accepted at the Emirates because he wasn’t prolific or quick enough, but many supporters on Twitter didn’t blame him for leaving in the first place or for celebrating.

While perhaps some fans might have been fuming with an old player for doing what Giroud did, the supporters on Twitter turned the blame on their own club for letting him go – or even forcing him out.
