Joe Willock helped Newcastle United secure a win in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon – and some Arsenal fans on Twitter were left praising their on-loan star.

Willock completed a move away from Arsenal to St James’ Park on deadline-day for the rest of the season.

The 21-year-old was thrown straight into the Newcastle XI this weekend at home to Southampton and starred in a 3-2 victory for his new club.

He opened the scoring for Newcastle with a well-timed run to the edge of the box and he slotted in a composed finish.

The attacking midfielder looks like he’ll inject an extra creative threat to Steve Bruce’s side, plus it looks like he’s going to be starting regularly.

Willock managed three goals and three assists in 18 Arsenal appearances during the first half of the season, but the English playmaker is in desperate need of regular first-team minutes to help his development.

There were some eyebrows raised when he joined a Newcastle team that haven’t been the most threatening this season.

Fortunately, they look much brighter with Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron in attack, who are two plays the Arsenal loanee could link up well with.

A selection of Arsenal supporters on social media were on hand to celebrate Willock’s debut for Newcastle.
