Arsenal fans react to Bernd Leno display against Manchester City

Arsenal’s Premier League restart did not go to plan as injury troubles and a David Luiz disasterclass saw Mikel Arteta’s strategy go out of the window in a 3-0 defeat to Manchester City.

It was a game marred by a severe-looking injury to Manchester City defender Eric Garcia after a collision with his own goalkeeper Ederson.

Arsenal also suffered their own injury issues, with Pablo Mari and Granit Xhaka both pulling up lame.

The injury of Mari saw Luiz come into the game. In his brief period of time on the pitch, Luiz managed to gift Raheem Sterling the opening goal before hauling down Riyad Mahrez, getting sent off, and Kevin De Bruyne scoring the subsequent penalty. Phil Foden later put the cherry on top.

But it was not all doom and gloom for Arsenal, with some impressive performances. One player, in particular, who impressed was goalkeeper Bernd Leno.

The German struggled when he first arrived at The Emirates but has been growing in stature and consistency for several months and, were it not for his display against City, this could have been a more embarrassing result.

Leno made several good saves for Arsenal and fans on Twitter were appreciative of his display. However, some are now starting to wonder just for how long Leno will remain at Arsenal with such flaky defending in front of him.
