Arsenal fans react to Ashley Barnes foul after Granit Xhaka red card
A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to comment on an incident during Sunday’s clash between Burnley and Leeds involving Ashley Barnes.
Barnes was arguably lucky to get away with a yellow card after a foul on Stuart Dallas 28 minutes into the game at Turf Moor.
Dallas went to clear the ball inside his penalty area. But as he made contact with the ball, Barnes made a high challenge on the Northern Irishman.
The combative forward left the ground and looked to be out of control. And yet, Michael Oliver decided that the challenge was only worthy of a yellow card.
The decision came just over 24 hours after Granit Xhaka was sent off as the Gunners faced Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
On that occasion, the Swiss left the ground and went in two-footed on Joao Cancelo.
It was a bizarre decision from Xhaka to leave the ground in such a manner. But it did seem that he won the ball and made minimal contact with Cancelo.
The referee decided that it was worthy of a red card. And in truth, Xhaka can have few complaints.
But for many Arsenal fans, the lack of consistency is infuriating with several insisting that Barnes’ challenge on Dallas was much more dangerous than what Xhaka did.
‘There is an agenda’: Arsenal fans fuming as Barnes is booked day after Xhaka receives red card
With that in mind, here is what some of the Arsenal supporters made of the foul from Barnes which saw the Burnley forward only receive a yellow card on Sunday…
Burnley have made two Xhaka red card tackles now and nary a red in sight. The Barnes challenge was twice as bad as Xhakas.
Xhaka is a liability, for his inability to sense danger, and in never getting the benefit of the doubt from officials.

So Xhaka gets sent off for a two footed challenge, being out of control but VAR looks at this and say’s no red for @BurnleyOfficial Ashley Barnes? It’s shocking challenge, he is out of control how is this any different? @RefsAssociation @FA #PremierLeague https://t.co/vz8lWLUZAY

How is Ashley Barnes still on the pitch????
Much worse than what both Xhaka and Reece did yesterday

Barnes has just done a feet off the ground tackle and received a yellow card from Oliver. If that had been Xhaka it would have been a red. There is an agenda against the Arsenal.

Someone tell me how that Barnes challenge wasn’t worse than Xhaka’s? Consistency of reffing in this league is a joke
