Some Arsenal fans have been reacting to a response Mikel Arteta gave about Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s credentials as captain.
The manager was speaking ahead of the Gunners’ final Europa League group stage match against Irish minnows Dundalk tonight.
The Spaniard was asked whether the Gabon talisman was a vocal leader, amid the team’s poor run of form and apparent lack of confidence and belief.

Aubameyang has come in for quite a bit of criticism himself this season, having seen the goals dry up.
The 31-year-old has scored just three times across all competitions this term, and the lack of goals seems to have coincided with him signing his lucrative contract extension at the club.
On whether the star is vocal, Arteta said (Arsenal.com): “If necessary, he will do it but I think he transmits his energy, his desire and his commitment to the team in different ways.”

On social media, some Arsenal fans were not entirely convinced by Arteta’s answer
Of course, there are different leadership styles, but it seems some Gunners see Aubameyang as someone who leads through performance – and those big performances at a time of real need just aren’t forthcoming at the moment:
