Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said he believed Aaron Ramsey wanted to stay at the club, who went back on their agreement over a new deal.
Ramsey subsequently joined Juventus on a free transfer, with the fact that there was no transfer fee involved helping the Italians to pay him an improved weekly wage.
But Wenger told beIN Sports that he was told by Ramsey that he wanted to stay and that it was down to the club changing their stance that he didn’t.
He said: “I met him once – he wanted to stay at Arsenal. They had an agreement and the club came back on that. I tried a long time to extend his contract. What I know from him, he was keen to stay.”

Many Arsenal fans, who watched their side draw 1-1 with Vitoria in an awful Europa League match last night, were frustrated with the comments over Ramsey.
They could do with a goalscoring midfielder like him now, and someone who gave their all for the club to drive them forward from midfield.
But, according to Wenger, a change of plans behind the scenes at Arsenal saw him leave and that means he is scoring Champions League goals while the Gunners toil in Europe’s secondary competition.
