Arsenal fans react to £25 million Quincy Promes transfer rumour

Arsenal are reportedly interested in a move for Ajax forward Quincy Promes. That is according to The Sun, who suggest the Gunners are keen on bringing the Dutch international to The Emirates.

The report claims that the Dutch side could demand a fee in the region of £25 million for the player, who scored 16 goals last season.

The report even claims that a source close to the Dutchman has made it clear he would join Arsenal ‘in a heartbeat’ if given the chance.

It is not the first time Arsenal have been linked with the 42-cap international. The Daily Mail reported in November that Arsenal could be tempted into a move for the player in the January transfer window.

That never materialised but it appears Promes is back on Arsenal’s radar.

It has certainly caused a mixed reaction from fans.

Promes is undoubtedly a quality player. A goal threat from out wide with pace, skill, and a genuine poaching ability, he could fit in nicely on Arsenal’s left-hand side.

However, some Arsenal fans are concerned. Firstly, the club is not in desperate need of wide options. With money tight, Arsenal fans would much rather see the club spend money in strengthening the centre-back and centre-midfield positions this summer, with the likes of Gabriel Magalhaes and Thomas Partey potential targets.

Others were also shocked to hear that Promes is 28-years-old, so would have little resale value. Many felt the Dutch international was younger than that, his lost four years in Russian football seemingly slipping by most fans.

So the consensus appears to be mixed, with some Arsenal fans hoping the deal gets done and plenty of others begging for it not to happen.
