Arsenal appear to have been dealt a significant blow during the transfer window with Spanish outlet AS reporting that Real Madrid have halted talks with the Gunners regarding a potential fresh move for Dani Ceballos.
Arsenal fans would have been forgiven for putting Ceballos right at the top of their summer wishlists. He was superb during the final months of last season and the supporters may have even been hoping that there could be scope for a permanent bid this summer.
Unfortunately, the latest reports make disappointing reading for Arsenal fans hoping to see Ceballos stay.
According to AS, Los Blancos have decided to take a look at the midfielder in pre-season. And therefore, they have decided to bring an end to discussions with the Gunners having been in contact for weeks.
Of course, while the window is still open, Mikel Arteta may hold out hope. If Ceballos cannot make an impact in pre-season, or is not given a chance, there may be scope for fresh talks.
AS notes that Ceballos’s priority is to play regularly next season. So, while AS claims that his dream is to make the grade at the Bernabeu, it would appear that he could be interested in a move if he senses that he is not going to play next term.
‘Don’t let this happen’
Plenty of Arsenal fans are, understandably, disappointed by the latest rumours. They had hoped that Ceballos would prove to be a key player for the club in Arteta’s first full season – and perhaps, beyond.
Admittedly, there seems to be a minority who feel that it is not a huge blow. There have been other names discussed amongst the supporters, some feel that replacing Ceballos may not be as difficult as others would think.
And some have even suggested that Madrid are simply using this as a negotiation tactic. They believe that the La Liga side want to force Arsenal’s hand to make a move to sign Ceballos permanently.
Here is how some of the Arsenal fans have reacted to the reports…

This is just Madrid’s tactic to extract a transfer fee from Arsenal. Where in that Madrid team will Ceballos play?

Gutted! Dani has come on so well under Arteta. Maybe we can bring Aaron Ramsey home? Just saying….
