A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to comment on reports from the Daily Mirror suggesting that the Gunners want West Ham United defender Issa Diop.

Mikel Arteta will, at some stage, be gearing up for his first full season at the Emirates. The club enjoyed a quiet January transfer window, with Cedric Soares and Pablo Mari arriving to bolster the defence.

But it appears that Arteta has further defensive additions in mind. The Daily Mirror has reported that Arsenal want Diop, whose future may have a question mark hanging over it when the campaign concludes.

The Mirror notes that Arsenal would hope to land Diop on the cheap should the Hammers be relegated from the Premier League this season.

Should they stay up however, any interested party may reportedly have to pay at least double the £22.5 million West Ham paid for the centre-back in 2018.

The news that Arsenal reportedly want Diop has divided some of the Gunners supporters on social media. But there are plenty who are delighted by the reports.

Diop – who the Hammers previously broke their club-record to sign (via BBC Sport) – has shown a lot of promise during his time in the Premier League. And he has the time to improve significantly in the coming years.

It has not been a good time for West Ham. But a number of Arsenal fans believe that he has the potential to play at a much higher level.

It should be noted however, that other fans are less convinced, and would prefer other options.
