A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Pablo Mari’s Gunners debut as Mikel Arteta’s side booked their place in the quarter-final of the FA Cup.

Mari came into the side after arriving on loan during the January transfer window. Gunners fans had previously had a glimpse of the centre-back in under-23 action. But Monday saw Mari make his first-team bow.

And he seemed to impress the large majority of the Arsenal fans on social media.

The Gunners saw off Portsmouth in the fifth round of the competition. Goals from Sokratis and Eddie Nketiah saw the visitors go through at Fratton Park.

Mari looked composed on the ball. And he was very happy to be ambitious when it came to passing to his teammates.

Whoscored.com shows that Mari completed 77 of his 86 passes, while he also won three aerial duels. He also made five clearances. David Luiz was the only Arsenal player to manage more.

Arsenal may not be getting carried away with the victory given the standard of the opposition. But plenty of fans have suggested that they are extremely encouraged by what they saw from Mari.

They are optimistic that he will be able to step up against better sides. And several suggested that he looks like he could prove to be a real find for Arteta’s men.
