A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to laud Mohamed Elneny’s performance as the Gunners beat Manchester United 1-0 on Sunday.

Mikel Arteta’s side were looking to bounce back from back-to-back league defeats as they headed to Old Trafford. And it certainly proved to be a much more encouraging display from the visitors.

Arsenal dominated the large portion of the contest. They perhaps did not create many clear-cut chances. But they seemed to have the majority of the game under control.

The goal came towards the final 20 minutes from the penalty spot. It was Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who converted from 12 yards after Hector Bellerin was fouled.

Aubameyang was the match-winner. But Elneny appeared to be the player that Arsenal fans were most impressed with in the victory.

The Egyptian was excellent alongside Thomas Partey in the middle of the park. Elneny provided a lot of control as Partey seemed to be everywhere throughout the contest.

Unsurprisingly, the 28-year-old was reliable in possession. As shown by Whoscored.com, no Arsenal player made more successful passes than Elneny. But he also managed to make a couple of important interceptions.

‘Unsung hero’

He looked confident when he drove forward with the ball on a couple of occasions. And that display left plenty of Arsenal fans lauding his improvement.

Elneny was one of the players who seemed to face an uncertain future in the summer. He was loaned out last term having previously struggled to silence his doubters.

He did stay at the Emirates, however. And it now appears that there are few doubters left to silence.

Here is how some of the fans reacted to Elneny’s display…
