Arsenal fans react on Twitter to Mohamed Elneny’s contract comments

A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to react to comments from Mohamed Elneny concerning his future at the Emirates.

It has been an interesting time for the Egyptian. Heading into the summer, it appeared to be a safe bet to assume that he would be offloaded after spending last season out on loan.

However, he made an immediate statement of his intentions upon his return, scoring an audacious goal in a pre-season friendly. And he has gone on to make 29 appearances in all competitions.

He has come in for criticism at times. And he has not played quite as often in recent weeks. But he has also produced some colossal performances.

His future is set to be a talking point over the coming months. As noted by Transfermarkt, his contract in North London expires in 2022. So if Arsenal decide against offering him fresh terms, he may well be on the move this summer.

But when asked whether it would be his dream to extend his stay, Elneny made it clear that he would jump at the chance to remain at the Emirates.

“Of course for me I always loved Arsenal,” he said, as reported by Football London. “If Arsenal said to me sign a new contract of course I will be happy to do this.”

The comments have received a mixed response on social media. Admittedly, there are plenty who are not sure about keeping Elneny – who is on £50,000-a-week, according to Spotrac.

Some would rather players such as Miguel Azeez get more of a chance. Others however, love what they have heard from Elneny.

While they do not believe that he offers enough to be a key player, they are all in favour of him sticking around and providing cover. Several clearly feel that he would set a fantastic example.
