Arsenal fans react on Twitter to Mohamed Elneny’s agent’s comments

A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to react to comments made by the agent of Mohamed Elneny concerning the midfielder’s future with the Gunners.

Elneny is now into the final 18 months of his contract at the Emirates. And while there was a time when it appeared unlikely that he would play for the club again, it now seems that he has left Mikel Arteta with a decision to make.

The Egyptian has returned from his loan spell last season and gone on to play a prominent role for Arsenal in this campaign.

And it appears that his time in North London may extend beyond 2022. His agent, Alan Nazmy has told Yallakora (via Football London) that he is in talks about signing a new contract.

“The player has a season left on his contract and we are currently working on renewing the contract. The player’s ambitions are to continue [with Arsenal], after earning the confidence of his coach Arteta. This is his first choice.”

The news has prompted a split reaction amongst Arsenal fans on social media. Admittedly, there seem to be plenty who feel that handing him a new contract is an underwhelming step.

Elneny – who arrived for £7.4 million, according to the Guardian – has been superb at times. But fans have their doubts over whether he is someone who would play 38 games in a team looking to challenge for the top four.

Others however, are much happier with the news. They have suggested that Elneny is the ideal player to have in the squad given that he is prepared to act as cover for the first-choice midfielders and does not appear to moan about his role in the side.
