A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to react to comments made by Mikel Arteta, and reported by Football London, concerning Matteo Guendouzi.
Guendouzi did not feature in any of the club’s final 11 games of last season following the club’s defeat at Brighton. As noted by The Telegraph, it appeared that he was heading for the Emirates exit.

However, it seems that that may now not be the case.
Ahead of this weekend’s Community Shield clash, Arteta hinted that the door is always open for players to stay when asked specifically about Guendouzi’s future.
“I have been really clear that everybody starts from zero all the time in football,” he said, as reported by Football London. “What you did two weeks ago or two years ago doesn’t really matter. It’s what you are able to contribute to the team now. Everybody is going to have the same opportunities.

“They’ll have to show with their performances and their attitude that they are better than their teammates or somehow contributing to what we want to achieve this season.”
It is a surprise to see Arteta hint that Guendouzi could return to the fold. And in truth, it appears that some supporters are not buying the idea of the youngster enjoying a dramatic turnaround.
A couple of fans are suspicious about Arteta’s comments, and wonder if he is simply trying to ensure that clubs do not try and sign him on the cheap.
But there are others who are more optimistic about Guendouzi’s future. There is no question that the 21-year-old has the potential to be an outstanding talent.
And it has been suggested by a handful of supporters that there is no reason why Guendouzi cannot follow in Granit Xhaka’s footsteps.
Xhaka has been outstanding since Arteta’s arrival at the club. In fact, it is quite easy to initially forget how much his relationship with the supporters has disintegrated last season.
Arteta appears to still be leaving the ball in Guendouzi’s court. But some fans are hopeful that they may not have seen the last of the Frenchman after all.
Here is how some of the supporters have reacted to Arteta’s comments…
