Arsenal fans react on Twitter to Mikel Arteta’s contract comments

A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to react to comments made by Mikel Arteta – and reported by Football London – in which he suggested that he would like to sign a new contract with the Gunners.

Arteta has made a major impact since taking over from Unai Emery late last year. Arsenal look to be moving in the right direction again, and they already have silverware under their belts.

It is remarkable to think about the mood around the club and its fans during the latter stages of Emery’s tenure. Arteta has instilled a confidence in his players, and that has meant that some who were previously written off are now enjoying key roles.

It definitely appears that Arsenal are building something really positive. And when asked whether he wanted a new contract at the Emirates, Arteta suggested that he would like to stay – on one condition.

“Yes, but I have to earn that,” he said, as reported by Football London. “Now in football you have to earn it every week and things change really quickly, so we have to be on our toes. Obviously, it’s my responsibility to plan medium and long-term as well, but that’s with or without me.

“At the end, the time that I’m going to be at this football club will be related to how much I can move the club forward, improve the team and be a success on the pitch and get the values and the vision that I want to implement into this club as well off the pitch.”

Arteta’s comments are impressing many. It has obviously been an incredibly promising start to his tenure. But he is clearly no illusions regarding the amount of work still ahead.

That has not stopped some Arsenal fans taking to social media to insist that he has already done enough to earn fresh terms.

Several would clearly be happy if he was handed a lifetime contract. They are certainly confident that it is a matter of time until those working behind the scenes hand Arteta a new deal.
