Arsenal fans react on Twitter to Joakim Maehle goal in Denmark win
A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Joakim Maehle after his latest performance for Denmark – with many insisting that they would love to see him at the Emirates in the future.
The 24-year-old has made 190 club appearances during his career. And in that time, he has scored seven goals.
Remarkably, the wing-back has scored the same number of times in just 21 caps for Denmark. He only made his debut last year.
His sixth goal of the calendar year came on Tuesday as Kasper Hjulmand’s men booked their ticket to next year’s World Cup in Qatar.
A 1-0 victory over Austria ensured that the Euro 2020 semi-finalists will be involved in the next major tournament. And they have done it with a, so far, flawless record.
The Danes have won eight out of eight, scoring 27 and conceding none.
Incredibly, only two players in their World Cup qualifying group have more goals than Maehle.
Admittedly, the large part of the credit for Denmark’s goal has to go to Thomas Delaney. His brilliant run left the Atalanta defender with a simple job of scoring the only goal.
But it is Maehle who caught the eye of a number of Arsenal fans on social media during and after the game.
Arsenal fans laud Joakim Maehle after another international goal
He actually made more key passes than any other player on the pitch, contributing three (according to Whoscored). He also won two tackles and completed two successful dribbles.
Maehle was not actually at his best when it came to running with the ball. He was stopped five times when dribbling. Nevertheless, he made up for that with the vital contribution in the final third.
It has been an incredible year for Denmark. Of course, their Euro 2020 campaign began with tragedy after the shocking collapse of Christian Eriksen.
But somehow, somehow, Denmark managed to bounce back from that moment – and defeat in their opening group game – to stun everyone and reach the last four.
Of course, they even took the lead against England in the semi-final. And it was a controversial penalty decision that allowed the Three Lions to score the winner.
But Maehle and his teammates emerged from that tournament as heroes. And it certainly appears that he has won a lot of admirers.
Plenty of Arsenal fans lauded the former Genk man on social media. Some want him brought to the Emirates in the future.
He is capable of playing in either wing-back role, thriving particularly when deployed on the left.
And he continues to prove to be an absolute threat at both ends of the pitch.
Arsenal have two very good full-back options in Takehiro Tomiyasu and Kieran Tierney right now. But it does appear that they could do with further depth and competition.
And clearly, some believe that Maehle would be a fantastic target for a future window.
With that in mind, here is how some of the Arsenal fans reacted to Maehle’s display for Denmark as they beat Austria to book their ticket to the World Cup in Qatar…

Mæhle is there to head the ball away in his own box and also there to finish the chance at the other end, proper proper full back, Tearknee should take note
