A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to discuss Emi Buendia after the Norwich City playmaker scored a superb goal in a crucial game in the Championship promotion race on Wednesday.
Arsenal currently appear to be well-stocked in terms of attacking midfield options. Mikel Arteta was able to add Martin Odegaard to his ranks in January to provide competition for Emile Smith Rowe.
Of course, Odegaard’s future is up in the air. The Norwegian is only at the Emirates on loan for now. And it remains to be seen if there is any scope for another deal to be done further down the line.
Should Odegaard return to Real Madrid in the summer, it may not be a big surprise to see Arsenal look at Buendia once again.
Football London reported in late January as a deal for Odegaard moved closer that Buendia remained high on Arteta’s wishlist.
It was little surprise that a move during the previous window never took place. According to Sky Sports, Norwich would have demanded at least £40 million for the 24-year-old.
The Canaries kept Buendia in January. But they must surely be already bracing themselves to face a battle this summer.
And a number of Arsenal fans have implored the Gunners to make sure that they are in the running to sign the Argentinian.
Their pleas come following his latest display for Daniel Farke’s men. It was Buendia who scored the winning goal against Brentford at Carrow Road on Wednesday.
The playmaker shrugged off one challenge as he cut in from the right. He then glided past a couple of defenders before driving the ball into the bottom corner from outside the box.
It was a sublime moment of magic from Buendia. And it means that he has now scored 10 goals and contributed 10 assists for the league leaders.
In his last six appearances, he has scored three and set up four.
Remarkably, he made seven key passes against Brentford (via Whoscored). To put that into context, the Bees managed seven between them. And no other player on the pitch managed more than two on their own.
Buendia appears to have taken his game to another level. And having already proved that he can make an impact at the highest level – he produced seven assists last season – he could be a real revelation next term.
Of course, Norwich look to be on course for an immediate return to the top flight. But it appears that plenty of Arsenal fans would love to have Buendia in their ranks before the new campaign starts.
Several took to social media to laud the quality of his goal. And many clearly believe that he would be an inspired addition to Arteta’s ranks.
If Odegaard does not stay, Arsenal may well need to find another potential magician. And Buendia is showing signs that suggest that he has the quality to fill that void should the Gunners meet his asking price.
With that in mind, here is how some of the Arsenal fans have reacted to Buendia’s latest display and moment of brilliance in front of goal…
Great goal. Still a big Buendia fan. I’d love him at Arsenal. https://t.co/ZW9WTcuaVQ

Buendia would have been a brilliant buy.
Better than Aouar or any other guy in our target list.
This logic of not buying Players when they are available cheap is stupid, Arsenal will go for Buendia once he become valued around 60M.

#Buendia has to be near the top of the shopping list for #Arteta and Arsenal this summer. Perfect fit for the progressive style of play sadly missed since #Wenger left. #NORBRE https://t.co/x7uAduTSfC

Regardless of how well Odegaard does, we need to push for both deals this summer. You can never have enough creativity. https://t.co/eNsvATvJuN

If we want to challenge next season we need him, not Odegaard. https://t.co/ED9aabiTJj
