Arsenal fans react on Twitter to Aurelien Tchouameni display
A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Aurelien Tchouameni after the midfielder produced a stunning display for France in the final of the Nations League on Sunday.
Didier Deschamps’ men have won the competition after a 2-1 victory over Spain in Milan.
Once again, France had to come from behind to beat their opponents. Against Belgium, they had trailed by two before producing an incredible comeback.
And they conceded the lead to Spain inside the San Siro. Mikel Oyarzabal had given Luis Enrique’s men the lead just after the hour mark after some questionable defending.
But a stunner from Karim Benzema and a controversial goal from Kylian Mbappe decided the contest for the World Cup holders.
France starlet shines in Nations League win
A number of France players produced stunning performances. But one of the most impressive on show came from Tchouameni, who started alongside Paul Pogba in midfield.
The 21-year-old was exceptional next to Pogba. He won four aerial duels and won two tackles (via Whoscored). He also managed to make four interceptions, which was only beaten by Jules Kounde.
It was a remarkable display given that the Monaco man had only made his senior debut for France back in September. He won his fifth cap for his country on Sunday evening.
And for plenty of Arsenal fans, his performance highlighted why he should be near the top of their wishlist in one of the upcoming windows.
Arsenal did strengthen their midfield options in the summer. Albert Sambi Lokonga looks to have a fantastic career ahead of him following his switch from Anderlecht.
Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta appears to now be considering Ainsley Maitland-Niles as more of an option in the middle of the park.
But it does appear to be an area that the Gunners could certainly improve. They do have Thomas Partey, but he has struggled to enjoy much luck with injury since arriving last summer.
Granit Xhaka is currently sidelined for a lengthy spell. It comes after a impressive few months for the Swiss. However, it still baffled many when he ended up signing a new contract in the summer. And they were vindicated for those concerns after a recent red card.
So there is certainly scope for Arsenal to bolster their ranks in the middle of the pitch further. And for several, Tchouameni would be the dream addition.
Tchouameni is capable of playing in a couple of key roles in midfield, whether that be as the number six or as the more adventurous number eight.
‘We should be all over Tchouameni’: Arsenal fans want Monaco starlet
He can break up play, and he can drive the team forward with surging runs up the pitch.
His time in the Principality has also allowed Tchouameni to work extremely closely with Cesc Fabregas. And there are not many better players for a young starlet to learn from than the former Arsenal man.
With that in mind, here is what some of the Arsenal fans made of Tchouameni’s display as France produced a dramatic victory over Spain on Sunday…
