Arsenal under-21s defeated League One outfit Ipswich Town 2-1 last night as they kicked off their Football League Trophy campaign with a victory.

George Lewis grabbed the opening goal on his debut and hotshot Folarin Balogun fired home what proved to be the winning goal during the second half.

The striker is favoured by the supporters who are desperate to see him sign a new deal and make the step up to play first-team football.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for the Gunners youngster but after last night’s game, he took to Twitter to speak of his delight at the win and the goal.

The 19-year-old is out of contract during next summer and with no sign of an extension, fans have grown anxious.

During 2019/20, Balogun fired 10 goals and registered four assists from his 15 appearances with the Gunners under-23 outfit.

He did play once in the Football League Trophy last term but failed to score in the defeat to Northampton Town.

Balogun did threaten to make the first-team under Unai Emery, with the Spaniard naming him on the bench for a win over Nottingham Forest.

Following last night’s performance and his tweet, supporters took to Twitter to rave about the youngster.

Here is a selection of Tweets to Balogun from the Gunners faithful.
