Henrikh Mkhitaryan has taken a slight dig about the style at Arsenal under former manager Unai Emery – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter have reacted negatively to his comments.
The Armenian attacker has been with the Gunners since January 2018, but his time in North London never really took off and he struggled to make a serious impact with Emery as his boss.
He joined Italian club Roma this season on loan and has rediscovered some of his best form under manager Paulo Fonseca.
Mkhitaryan has suggested he is now much more comfortable in Serie A, with six goals and four assists in 17 games since he joined Roma proving that.
“The philosophy of Emery was different from Fonseca, but here I’m feeling much better because we’re playing better football and I think it matched me,” he told the Times.
A selection of Arsenal supporters on social media aren’t too pleased with Mkhitaryan’s comments of solely blaming Emery for his below par form and have claimed they don’t want him to return to the squad.
The 31-year-old will return from his loan at the end of this season and it’s unclear on what new Gunners boss Mikel Arteta will do regarding his future.
Corriere dello Sport reports that he would cost £23.1million to sign on a permanent basis and Roma are considering looking elsewhere due to the price tag.
Here are some Arsenal fans on Mkhitaryan’s comments:
