Arsenal U23 star Harry Clarke has officially penned a new contract with the club.

The 18-year-old was instrumental last year for the U18s as they triumphed in the Premier League South.

He made 15 appearances, and contributed two six clean sheets.

This term he has made the step up to the U23s, where he has made 11 appearances so far.

It is great news for the Gunners, with Clarke viewed as one of academy’s most exciting prospects.

Given the struggles the first-team have had defensively not just this season, but in recent years, Clarke’s development is something of real intrigue for fans.

The centre-half has been with the club since 2015, and actually used to be a holding midfielder.

He is billed by the club’s official website as ‘a ball-playing defender’, which could well stand the teenager in good stead with new first-team manager Mikel Arteta.

The Spaniard has just arrived from Manchester City, who are arguably the best side in world football at playing out from the back.
