Nicolas Pepe scored for Ivory Coast on Sunday afternoon in a 3-1 win over DR Congo after some excellent work from Crystal Palace superstar Wilfried Zaha – and Gunners fans have applauded Pepe on Twitter.
Pepe, 24, joined Arsenal for a whopping £72million in the summer from Lille, after netting 23 goals and laying on 12 assists in just 41 games last season. He helped Lille qualify for the Champions League, pushing them into second place.
However, Pepe is coming under criticism at Arsenal for his star in north London. Making 10 appearances in all competitions, Pepe has scored just one goal from the penalty spot in a 3-2 win over Aston Villa. He has provided three assists.
Escaping the pressure of Arsenal fans, Pepe returned to his home country to take on DR Congo and the Ivory Coast were in superb form. With Zaha shining, DR Congo stood little chance away from home.

Zaha took on almost the entire defence before laying off Pepe who flicked the ball home from inside the six-yard box. Wilfried Kanon and Zaha also scored, cancelling out Chadrac Akolo’s strike for DR Congo.
Arsenal fans caught wind of Pepe finding the net on social media, with many applauding the versatile attacker who was used as a striker by his country on Sunday. Some fans are confident he will come good.
Great touch by Pepe. He will come good for AFC. A bit of luck combined with hard work and he will prove to be a first class signing. Be slow to chide and quick to praise.
