Arsenal fans react as to news that Lucas Torreira is out for the season

Arsenal face West Ham United at the Emirates on Saturday and their official website has suggested a big fitness blow for Mikel Arteta.

Lucas Torreira was stretchered off against Portsmouth in the FA Cup on Monday and it’s now been confirmed that he has fractured his ankle.

The Uruguayan performer is awaiting the news of a specialist report to determine the length of time he is facing on the sidelines.

A fracture has almost certainly curtailed his campaign, however, and it’s just matter of seeing if he will be fit and firing for the start of pre-season.

The 24-year-old was handed a chance to impress the Spanish boss but lasted just 16 minutes before disaster struck.

Torreira signed for Arsenal in 2018 costing £26 million from Sampdoria. He earns £75,000-a-week at the Emirates Stadium.

Arteta isn’t blessed with lots of options in central midfielder and this news will be considered a big blow to the boss.

Torreira has played 83 times since arriving in North London and is a popular figure with the club’s supporters.
