Arsenal fans react as Sol Campbell suggests Gunners need Liverpool player

Arsenal icon Sol Campbell has told TalkSPORT that his old side need to sign a combative midfielder like Liverpool veteran James Milner – and many Arsenal fans have reacted by agreeing with Campbell on Twitter.

Many supporters continue to criticise the Gunners defence after both Sokratis and David Luiz made mistakes last time out, which saw Arsenal throw away a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Watford – and they were lucky to escape with a point.

For many years now, the belief has been the defence with the likes of Shkodran Mustafi, Sokratis and others being signed to plug the leak. Luiz is the latest player to be brought in, but he has already made high-profile mistakes.

Campbell was asked about the issue and he reckons it is not the fault of the defence, but that the midfield should be to blame. He reckons Arsenal need more grit in the middle of the park and suggested a player like Milner – or Ray Parlour.

“You look at someone like Milner, the attitude. The Parlour attitude. That’s the kind of attitude that Arsenal need. The love of football and desire to keep going, they’re lacking that. I look at Milner and think we need a little bit of that ,” Campbell said.

Milner, now 33, shows no signs of slowing down as he continues to add to his 520 Premier League appearances. Indeed, the former England international is on course to break Gareth Barry’s 653-game record.

If Arsenal were to make a move for the ex-Leeds, Villa, Newcastle and Manchester City star, they may find he could go on the cheap with Milner in his last 12 months of his contract – worth £140,000 a week according to Spotrac.

Arsenal fans have reacted on Twitter to Campbell’s claim that the Gunners need a player like Milner, and many fans of the north London club replied by agreeing with Campbell that Milner would be a good signing.
