Shkodran Mustafi ended his association with Arsenal yesterday after joining struggling Bundesliga outfit Schalke.

The man who won the World Cup with Germany was allowed to leave the Gunners having fallen out of favour under Mikel Arteta.

Mustafi had fallen behind David Luiz, Gabriel, Rob Holding and Pablo Mari in the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium.

He now joins the club sat bottom of the Bundesliga on a free transfer and frees up £90,000-a-week in wages.

Mustafi signed for the Gunners from Valencia in 2016 and made 151 appearances for the club.

His last appearance for the club came on Boxing Day when he featured during a 3-1 win over Chelsea.

Mustafi was due to see his contract expire in the summer but getting him off the books is a decent piece of business for the club.

Following his departure from the Emirates Stadium, supporters have been reacting on Twitter.

Plenty have wished him well at Schalke and have thanked him for his efforts at Arsenal.

Others are simply glad to finally see him moved on from the Emirates Stadium.
