Arsenal fans react as Romano says midfielder choosing not to sign new deal, four clubs interested

Fabrizio Romano posted on Twitter on Thursday that Reiss Nelson had been offered a new deal to stay at Arsenal this summer. It is claimed that the winger is choosing not to sign a new deal as he wants to move on. Romano claims three English sides want Nelson – and Arsenal fans have reacted.

Nelson, 21, was only afforded two appearances for the first team last season in the Premier League. The improved form of Nicolas Pepe and the decision not to go on loan in January saw him return to Steve Bould’s Under-23’s. Now, he could join Bould in leaving, if Romano’s claim is true.

The Italian journalist claims Nelson has a new deal on the table from Arsenal, with his £15,000-a-week (Spotrac) contract set to expire in under a year. But Nelson has other plans, choosing not to sign that deal for the time being. It is claimed that three English sides, and Olympiakos, are keen.

What are Arsenal fans saying about Nelson – following Romano claim?

Nelson is going to struggle to get game time. Willian is a high-paid player so will always get preference, while Pepe is beginning to come good. But Nelson will have seen the good of going out on loan, as Joe Willock sparkled for Newcastle. Ainsley Maitland-Niles did well at West Brom.

So, it might benefit Nelson to sign a new deal and go out on loan – as Romano claims Arsenal want him to do. But if he chooses to go out permanently, you can hardly blame him. It would be the loss of a homegrown talent and one Arsenal fan tweeted: “Arsenal, what a mess.”
