Arsenal fans react as Romano says Arteta identifies Premier League star 'perfect' for Gunners

Fabrizio Romano claims Mikel Arteta has identified Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling as perfect for Arsenal – and Gunners fans have responded.

Sterling, 26, is in and out of the Manchester City side at the moment. The 72-time England international has started just eight of 17 outings this term.

Indeed, Sterling was even an unused substitute in the 2-0 win over Manchester United earlier this month. He has spoken about wanting to go.

The ex-Liverpool man is keen on a move abroad – but there are plenty of opportunities for the Englishman to remain in the Premier League.

Speaking to the Arsenal Lounge, Romano says that Arteta is “in love” with Sterling and is “convinced” that he would be ideal for the Gunners.

“For Sterling, it is about the contract. Man City have been clear with him – extend the contract, or we will try to sell you in January or next summer.

“It’s true, Arsenal would love to have him. Mikel Arteta is in love, he is convinced he would be perfect. Man City want more than £50million.”

What are Arsenal fans saying about Sterling, amid Romano claims?

Arsenal are beginning to form an identity under Arteta. At their best, like the win over Tottenham – Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey sat deep.

Martin Odegaard in the 10 role, and Emile Smith-Rowe and Bukayo Saka on the flanks – behind Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

But Odegaard has been a bit inconsistent of late, with Alexandre Lacazette starting ahead of him. Ideally, Arsenal need a right winger.

It would allow Smith-Rowe to play as a 10, and Saka to come over to the left where he is best. Sterling would provide that.

But also, Sterling can play from the left and as a 10 – even up top. That fluidity remains with Sterling, and Arsenal fans want him signed.
