Arsenal earned a comfortable 2-0 win over Southampton at St. Mary’s Stadium to end a poor run of results thanks to goals from Eddie Nketiah and Joe Willock – and Gunners fans have applauded Rob Holding’s display.

Mikel Arteta took his side south after defeats to Manchester City and Brighton since the restart. Numerous injuries have hampered Arsenal, with the Spanish boss making four changes to the side that were beaten on Saturday.

One of those changes opened the scoring. Closing down Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy, Nketiah got his name on the score sheet and opened the deadlock by blocking McCarthy’s clearance and tapping home.

Jack Stephens was sent off in the 85th minute and just two minutes later, Arsenal made it two to secure all three points. Alexandre Lacazette saw a free-kick blocked, before the resulting effort was parried by McCarthy.

That found midfielder Willock, who netted his first Premier League goal. At the back, Arsenal looked solid with £2.5million (Mail) signing Holding impressing alongside Shkodran Mustafi.

Comfortable in possession, supreme in the air and making a number of decent blocks – Holding was in excellent form in what was just his fourth Premier League outing of the season. Gunners fans applauded the former Bolton ace.
