Arsenal fans react as reports suggest David Luiz is set for extended stay

News has emerged from The Sun that David Luiz is to be handed a new one-year contract extension at Arsenal taking his stay at the Emirates Stadium to the summer of 2021.

The Brazilian signed for the Gunners prior to the 2019/20 campaign costing Arsenal £8 million from Chelsea (BBC).

Luiz has settled into the Arsenal side pretty well and has played in 25 of the team’s 29 Premier League fixtures this season.

Paid £125,000-a-week by the Gunners he appears to be a decent figure to have around the dressing room.

Mikel Arteta has trusted several youngsters to play since his arrival and the experience of Luiz looks crucial to those players.

It will be interesting to see whether he maintains his place as a regular in the side next season, but nonetheless, Arteta is clearly keen to keep hold of him.

Arsenal fans are largely happy with this decision looking at some of their comments on Twitter.

Luiz has earned 56 caps for Brazil during a career which has seen him play club football for Chelsea, PSG and Benfica prior to his Arsenal switch.
