Arsenal fans react as reports on Martin Odegaard emerge
A report by The Athletic has possibly handed Arsenal a boost in their quest to land Real Madrid midfielder Martin Odegaard. Supporters perhaps aren’t on the same wavelength as Mikel Arteta, however.
The Norwegian spent last season on loan with the Gunners, making 20 appearances in the red and white of Arsenal.
It has been claimed that the Gunners boss has identified Odegaard as his number one summer transfer target.
Now, there could be hope. The report claims that Carlo Ancelotti is aware that Los Blancos are willing to consider offers for the Norway captain.
At this stage, he has no desire to change that. He wants to keep Eden Hazard and Gareth Bale but could still let Odegaard leave.
Interestingly, the Norwegian recently said in an interview that he expects to be back at Madrid next season. With that in mind, there is a lot to sort.
The 22-year-old is valued at £35 million by Real Madrid. It does seem as though there is plenty of work to do just yet, however.
He earns £85,000-a-week at the Bernabeu and signing him certainly won’t come cheap.
Arsenal are desperate to bolster their ranks this summer. They finished eighth during 2020/21 and won’t be in Europe next season.
Arteta was so impressed last season that he heaped praise on him back in February.
He told Sky Sports that he was ‘incredible’ and that he was a ‘really intelligent player’ after a standout showing.
Arsenal fans not convinced on Odegaard
The Gunners supporters are not overly convinced by the news that their former loanee could be available to sign.
Some don’t feel he’s any better than players currently in the Arsenal ranks, with many thinking Emile Smith Rowe is streets ahead.
Following the latest reports regarding Odegaard, supporters have been reacting on Twitter and here is what they had to say.
