Arsenal fans react as reported £12m-rated target hands in transfer request

Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo has confirmed that Edinson Cavani has handed in a transfer request over the weekend – and Arsenal fans have reacted on Twitter, after being loosely linked with the Uruguayan striker.

Cavani, 32, has been afforded just 14 appearances this season for PSG – starting only six of those outings. The 116-time Uruguay international is out of contract at the end of the season, and is now likely to leave the French champions.

Just last week, Arsenal were linked with the former Napoli powerhouse. The Express claimed Arsenal had made an offer for the striker, and now Cavani is looking to leave the club. Leonardo stated that Atletico Madrid have also made an offer.

However, Atleti’s offer was below PSG’s valuation of Cavani. The Mail claim PSG are willing to offload Cavani for £12million, given his contract situation, but he is earning £288,000 a week. Leonardo confirmed his transfer request.

“Today he asked to leave,” Leonardo said, as quoted by Ligue 1’s official website. “For Cavani, we’re listening. We’ll see how it develops over the next few days. We’re listening because we respect the player.”

Arsenal have options up front, especially since they brought Eddie Nketiah back to the club following his disappointing loan spell with Leeds United. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and Gabriel Martinelli are also options.

But there are doubts beginning to arise over the future of both Lacazette and Aubameyang, and that may tempt Mikel Arteta to consider a striker. Arsenal fans have reacted on Twitter to the news that PSG are listening to offers for Cavani.
