Arsenal fans react as player in talks to join Turkish side
Arsenal could be about to sanction the exit of goalkeeper Alex Runarsson this summer, amid reports that he is in talks with Turkish side Altay Spor. The Icelandic goalkeeper has struggled during his time in English football. Now, Arsenal fans have reacted on Twitter to his potential exit this summer.
Runarsson, 26, penned a £40,000-a-week (Spotrac) deal last summer as the Gunners chose to place their faith in Germany international Bernd Leno. That decision saw the exit of Emi Martinez, who has since sparkled at Aston Villa. The Gunners needed cover for Leno and in came Runarsson.
But just 12 months later and it seems as though the Iceland international is off again. He managed just six appeareances since his move to North London, conceding seven goals – four against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup. It is a game which single-handedly ended his Arsenal stint.
What do Arsenal fans think of Runarsson?
Despite Arsenal failing to sign Mat Ryan on a permanent basis from Brighton, Runarsson is being allowed to leave. The Daily Express claim that newly-promoted top-tier side Altay Spor are in talks to thrash out a move to sign Runarsson. The rumours are that it could be a loan-to-buy deal.
Arsenal fans have reacted on Twitter to the reports that Runarsson could leave the club for Turkey. Many bemoaned the decision to sign the Icelandic goalkeeper in the first place, while one fan Tweeted: “Another Arteta masterclass”.
