Chelsea have confirmed on their official website that legendary goalkeeper Petr Cech has returned to the club as their new Technical and Performance Advisor.
Cech retired from football at the end of last season, leaving Arsenal where Spotrac claim he was earning £110,000 every week, and has now returned to the club where he enjoyed so much success as a player.
He said: “I feel very privileged to have this opportunity to join Chelsea again and help create the best possible high level performance environment to continue the success the club has had over the past 15 years.
“I’m looking forward to the new challenge and hope I can use all of my football knowledge and experience to help the team achieve even more success in the future.”
Some Arsenal fans are not impressed with the way Cech has flitted off across London, leaving them after a season in which they failed to qualify for the Champions League – while Chelsea finished third and lifted the Europa League.
They are suggesting that his heart was never really in it at the Emirates Stadium if he can just switch his loyalties as soon as his playing career is over.
It seems to be a little harsh in truth, and perhaps is more just a manifestation of their frustration about a summer of stagnation so far…
In hindsight, I would have kept Szczęsny and Ospina instead of buying someone who was once a great goalkeeper, but didn’t show that in his time at the club
