Mesut Ozil made his debut for Fenerbahce on Tuesday evening, coming on as a substitute to help his new club beat Hatayspor 2-1 away from home – and Arsenal supporters have reacted to Ozil being involved in the winning goal.
Last playing professionally back in March 2020, 32-year-old Ozil finally returned to action at Fener – coming on in the 77th minute as a substitute, replacing Mame Thiam. Thiam had put Fener 1-0 up in the first half.
With the match entering it’s final stage, Ozil picked up the ball in the middle of the park and drove forward on the counter attack. He sprayed a left-footed pass out to the right wing, and a cross was turned into his own goal Jean-Claude Billong.

Hatayspor did score a few moments later through Aaron Boupendza but Fener held onto a lead to win 2-1 on the night – and stay at the top of the Turkish SuperLig, sitting three points ahead of Galatasaray and four above Besiktas, who have a game in hand.
Arsenal fans have reacted on Twitter to Ozil having a hand in Fener’s winner just moments after coming off the bench to make his debut for the Turkish club – and many applauded his efforts, impressed by his touch.
