Manchester City are reportedly considering a shock move to sign Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares ahead of the January transfer window with City scouts watching him – and Arsenal fans have responded.
Tavares, 21, has broken into the Arsenal starting XI this season, after Mikel Arteta lured him to the Emirates from Benfica for a bargain fee of £8million (Sun). Tavares has started six of his side’s last seven games.
He was dropped for Kieran Tierney against Everton on Monday, but the Portuguese star still came off the bench to play 25 minutes. Indeed, ESPN report that he might have done so in front of Manchester City scouts.
The Premier League champions are said to be watching the defender – with scouts being deployed. It is a surprise move, given Tavares was a bit of strange signing at Arsenal just last summer.

Only six months on after he was brought to the club as cover for Tierney, he is being linked with City. Surely, Arsenal will want to keep him but the lure of City will surely prove tempting for Tavares.
What are Arsenal fans saying as Manchester City eye Tavares?
The Premier League leaders currently boast Oleksandr Zinchenko as their only recognised left-back option. Benjamin Mendy has been suspended, while Joao Cancelo is playing at times – despite being left-footed.
The left-back slot has been an option for Pep Guardiola since he joined. Is Tavares the answer? It seems unlikely, and Arsenal fans have had their say on Twitter amid the interest.
