The agent of Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira has been quoted as saying that the Uruguayan midfielder would “love” to return to Italy this summer – and Gunners fans have responded by waving goodbye to Torreira.

Torreira, 24, joined Arsenal in the summer of 2018 after an impressive World Cup campaign with Uruguay. The former Sampdoria star has since clocked up 83 senior appearances for the Gunners, but is currently sidelined with an ankle fracture.

The former Sampdoria midfielder has been constantly linked with a return to Serie A. Clubs including Napoli have been suggested as a possible next move for the pocket-sized South American, who has three years left on his deal.

Torreira’s agent, Pablo Bentancur told Todo Mercado Web that his client would like to return to Italy just two seasons after leaving Sampdoria – but the Uruguayan’s agent also stated that Torreira is happy at Arsenal.

“He was a bit angry about some technical issues but later recovered,” Torreira said. “The injury came, fortunately less serious than expected. Today he is fully recovered, I think it will be an important man in the next market.

“I will have to talk to Arsenal,” agent Bentancur continued. “The player would like to return to Italy, but it must be admitted that in England they have treated him very well.”

Arsenal are expected to be in the market this summer for a central midfielder. Atletico Madrid star Thomas Partey has been heavily linked with the Gunners, while Mady Camara is also an option from Olympiakos.

Arsenal supporters reacted on Twitter to Torreira’s agent commenting on his future, and many are happy to wave goodbye to the aggressive ace with some understanding that he may lose his place in the side if Partey joins.
