Arsenal fans react as Lucas Torreira joins Atletico Madrid on loan

It was a busy transfer deadline day for Arsenal with Thomas Partey finally signing for the club and Lucas Torreira completing his loan move to Atletico Madrid.

The Uruguayan finally checked in at the Wanda Metropolitano after a summer of speculation over where he might end up.

Torreira arrived at Arsenal in 2018 from Sampdoria, with the North London-based club paying £26 million to secure his services.

Things haven’t really gone according to plan for the 24-year-old who has spent his time at the Gunners scratching around for consistency.

Torreira has played 89 times for Arsenal and if his loan spell goes well there is every reason to suggest Atletico might make it permanent.

Mikel Arteta is now blessed with plenty of options in the middle of the park and it seems unlikely that Torreira will force his way into the squad in the future.

Torreira has 23 caps for Uruguay and the challenge for him will be to play regular first-team football and start realising the potential he showed prior to his Arsenal move.
