Arsenal fans react as Kevin Volland scores brace for Leverkusen, amid Gunners link

Kevin Volland scored twice for Bayer Leverkusen as they produced a stunning display to overcomer Borussia Dortmund with a 4-3 win on Saturday evening – and Arsenal fans have reacted to Volland’s display, amid links with the German attacker.

Germany international Volland, 27, has been in excellent form for Leverkusen this season – playing both up front and out wide for the Bundesliga side. He has scored 11 goals this season, as well as creating seven assists in 29 outings.

Volland gave Leverkusen the lead in a topsy-turvy match with a smart finish past Roman Burki. Mats Hummels equalised with an excellent header, before Emre Can scored a stunning effort from all of 30 yards on his first Dortmund start.

But Volland was on hand to net again, making the score 2-2 – as he volleyed a loose ball home from 10 yards. Raphael Guerreiro scored a third for Dortmund after Jadon Sancho had an effort ruled out by VAR.

However, in another twist, Leon Bailey and Lars Bender both scored in the last 10 minutes to earn a 4-3 win for Leverkusen. Volland, meanwhile, is now just one goal away from 50 strikes – despite playing just 137 times.

It is quite a record, given that Volland has been used as a substitute 18 times and played out wide or in the 10 role as much as he has done up front. Sky Sports claimed in December that Arsenal were targeting the striker, who cost Leverkusen £17m (ESPN).

Gunners fans believe that Volland would be a top signing, as doubts continue to surround the future of both Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette. Many responded to his display on Saturday evening on Twitter.
