Arsenal have promoted young midfielder Joe Willock to their first-team squad ahead of the 2019/20 season, according to Gunners youth expert Jeorge Bird.
He says that Willock has been handed the number 28 shirt at the Emirates Stadium in the opening days of pre-season training as Unai Emery’s plans get underway.
There has been a reshuffle behind the scenes, with Freddie Ljungberg promoted to help the senior side, with Steve Bould reverting back down to the young players.
That’s likely aimed at improving the pathway to the first team for the young guns, especially at a club where money appears to be at a premium at the moment – without the Champions League millions rolling in.

Many Arsenal fans took to Twitter to react to the report; lots of them feel that it means there will be no experience central midfield signing to replace Aaron Ramsey.
That said, there is plenty of excitement about Willock’s potential, and some fans want to see him given the opportunity to try and fill the void left by Ramsey’s departure to whatever extent he can.
