Arsenal fans react as Gunners players reportedly told Kieran Tierney to calm down

Arsenal teammates reportedly told Kieran Tierney to tone down his tenacity in training sessions after joining the club from Celtic, with players getting used to easy sessions under Unai Emery and Arsene Wenger – and fans have reacted on Twitter.

Tierney, 23, has clocked up 18 appearances for Arsenal in a tumultuous first campaign in north London since his move from Scottish champions Celtic last summer. It is believed Tierney cost a fee in the region of £25million.

ESPN claim that Tierney’s intensity and aggression during training was something that the current Arsenal squad were not used to, having become accustomed to lackadaisical sessions under the previous two managers.

Tierney was supposedly told to calm down and tone down his efforts in training to match his teammates – despite having previously learned to ‘train as you play’ while with Scottish champions Celtic, who are under pressure to win every match.

Now, Mikel Arteta has upped the aggression both on the pitch and in training – matching Tierney’s efforts. Meanwhile, the Arsenal captaincy has already changed hands in the past year, and could change again if Pierre-Emile Aubameyang leaves.

But reacting to reports of Tierney’s commitment, many Gunners fans think the left-sided defender should be handed the captaincy – with some already labelling the Scotland international as “my captain”.
