Arsenal fans react as Granit Xhaka nears Roma transfer

Granit Xhaka is edging closer to the Arsenal exit door and the club’s supporters have been reacting to the news on Twitter.

The former Gunners captain is edging closer to a move to Serie A, with ex-Spurs boss Jose Mourinho taking him to Roma.

It ends a five-year stint at the Emirates Stadium and comes at a time when he’s just enjoyed a strong campaign.

In recent times Xhaka has won over the Arsenal fan base. He had a public spat with the supporters when Unai Emery was the boss, with many fearing his time at the club was over.

Under Mikel Arteta though he has thrived. During 2020/21 he made 45 appearances in all competitions, proving a mainstay in the team.

Xhaka has played 220 times for Arsenal in total, scoring 13 goals and claiming 20 assists.

He checked in from Borussia Monchengladbach and cost the club £35 million.

Arsene Wenger pursued him for a long time before signing him shortly after Euro 2016.

Now, it looks like being Roma where he will continue his career and the club’s fans have been reacting.

The man with 94 caps has had his moments in an Arsenal shirt and last season he played pretty well.

He has also endured some not so memorable moments and they won’t live long in the memory.

Ultimately though another midfielder departing leaves the club in need of reinforcements this summer.

Plenty of players have been linked but Arsenal’s recruitment team must now get to work.

Ruben Neves and Yves Bissouma are two names to have been linked and both have their qualities.

Arsenal can’t afford to dwell this summer and must act quickly to assemble their squad.
