Arsenal’s transfer activity during the closing years of Arsene Wenger’s reign became something of a farce.
Sustained underinvestment was exacerbated by the repeated failure to hang on to elite talent and in the midst of all that, Serge Gnabry left the club in August 2016.
The Telegraph reported the fee at the time as £4.25m as the German returned to his homeland to join Werder Bremen after failing to get enough gametime at the Emirates Stadium.
From there, he has since joined Bayern Munich and established himself in a Germany side which is trying to recover from a post World Cup hangover and introduce fresh blood as the generation that won the prize in 2014 is phased out.

2018 was a tough year for Joachim Low’s side, and their first shot at getting back on their pedestal in 2019 resulted in a dramatic 3-2 away win over their bitterest rivals Holland.
They raced into a 2-0 lead and Gnabry netted the second with a sumptuous curling strike, having cut inside Virgil van Dijk onto his right foot.
And that got Arsenal fans thinking about the player they let go and it’s fair to say they’re not too pleased…
