Kieran Tierney came on for the final minutes of Arsenal’s penalty-shootout defeat to Liverpool on Wednesday night – and Gunners fans want him to become captain after footage emerged of the left-back at full-time.
Tierney, 22, is finally making senior appearances at Arsenal following his £25million move from Celtic in the summer. The left-back joined the Gunners while carrying an injury, but made his fifth appearance in an Arsenal shirt on Wednesday.
Arsenal surrendered 3-1, 4-2 and a 5-4 lead to Liverpool with the two sides playing out an enthralling 5-5 tie – meaning an immediate penalty shootout took place. Dani Ceballos missed, which saw Liverpool progress into the quarter finals.
Footage immediately after the last penalty saw Matteo Guendouzi and a number of other Arsenal players leave the pitch, after Curtis Jones scored the winning spot kick. But the video shows Tierney ordering his players to applaud the supporters.

Tierney has made a very solid start to life at Arsenal, has won three of his four starts in a Gunners shirt – beating Standard Liege, Nottingham Forest and Vitoria. He also started the 2-2 draw at Crystal Palace, which Arsenal should have won.
Arsenal fans reacted to the footage of Tierney, who seemed to be pleasing with his Arsenal teammates to join him in applauding the Gunners supporters – and the majority of the fanbase on Twitter want him to become skipper.
