Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has been linked with a new deal at the Emirates Stadium – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter have expressed serious delight at the speculation.

The Mirror claims that the 27-year-old’s form in net for the Gunners has made them rethink plans to offload him, despite previously considering options elsewhere to sign.

It is understood that the Argentine shot-stopper was weighing up his future in north London, but Arsenal now want to convince him to extend his stay with them.

The report further explains that a fresh contract could be on the cards for him due to his outstanding form recently.

Martinez was presented with a serious first-team opportunity when number one goalkeeper Bernd Leno suffered an injury against Brighton on 20 June and he’s not looked back since.

The South American has three clean sheets in four league starts since coming into the starting XI, earning plenty of praise for his composed performances.

He’s proven that he’s a real commanding presence in his box when defending set-pieces, plus he’s decent on the ball and has settled quickly in Mikel Arteta’s starting line up.

Martinez has played second fiddle to regular number one Leno due to the latter’s form, but he’s proven his value as well this season during his 17 appearances and has been a hidden gem in the squad.
