Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah played for Leeds United’s U23 team on Monday afternoon. Nketiah is on loan at Leeds but was left as an unused substitute during the 2-0 win over Wigan Athletic last weekend.
Marcelo Bielsa is a man with a simple philosophy. He likes to keep his same side and he likes his new players to prove themselves first before breaking into the first-team. This is why Nketiah is yet to make his league debut.
Nketiah started on Tuesday night in the EFL Cup against Salford City. It was a televised midweek game and Nketiah held his nerve, firing Leeds ahead in the first half with a tap in.
But this was not enough for the 20-year-old to get any game time on Saturday as Patrick Bamford scored twice in Leeds’ win. In order to keep up his fitness, Bielsa allowed Nketiah to play for the U23 team against Millwall on Monday.
Nketiah came on at half time and it took him 11 minutes to find the net. The England U21 striker finished off a flowing counter-attack involving Tottenham starlet Jack Clarke. But here are some tweets from angry Arsenal fans after hearing Nketiah was in the U23s.
Err.. Eddie has u23 football at Arsenal… this isnt why we loaned him out.
