Arsenal fans have been reacting to a report that the club have only paid £5 million towards Lille for the transfer of Gabriel so far, with the rest of the money to apparently be spread over the next three years.

The Brazil joined the club last month, with the total transfer fee said to be worth around £23.5 million.

Many had assumed that that figure was paid to Lille in one lump sum, but the Guardian have now claimed that only £5 million has been paid so far.

The Gunners have supposedly negotiated terms with Lille that will allow them to pay the rest of the money in instalments over the next few years.

Arsenal are reported to have negotiated a similar structure for the previous signing of Nicolas Pepe, who cost £72 million in total.

According to the Express, £20 million was the club’s first payment for the Ivorian, with the remaining £52 million to be spread across the next four years.
