Danny Welbeck scored a sensational overhead kick for Watford on Tuesday night as the Hornets secured a crucial three points against rock-bottom side Norwich City with a 2-1 win – and Arsenal fans have reacted on Twitter.
Welbeck, 29, joined Watford from Arsenal on a free transfer last summer after his Gunners contract had expired. The England international managed just his 16th appearance for Watford on Tuesday night, starting out wide against Norwich.
He ended his search for his first Premier League goal with a stunning overhead kick early in the second half – after defender Craig Dawson had cancelled out Argentine star Emi Buendia’s opener for Daniel Farke’s side.
The goal – which was Welbeck’s first Premier League strike for Watford – has pushed Nigel Pearson’s side into 17th place and four points above 18th-placed Aston Villa. Villa and 19th-placed Bournemouth play on Thursday night.
It has been a long time coming for Welbeck, who has been made to wait for a return to senior football after enormous injury problems during his time at Arsenal. He does have time on his side, with two years left on his Watford contract.
Arsenal supporters reacted on Twitter to Welbeck’s stunning effort, which has been touted for a possible goal of the season award – given the importance of the strike. Many Gunners fans applauded Watford number 10’s effort.
