Arsenal fans react as club's president says no.9 will not sign a new contract
Fiorentina president Rocco Commisso has told his club’s website that Dusan Vlahovic will not sign a new deal – and Arsenal fans have responded.
Vlahovic, 21, was sensational for Fiorentina last season – scoring 21 goals in 37 Serie A games. His form caught the attention of many English clubs.
Tottenham were strongly linked, as they looked for a possible replacement for Harry Kane. City were also keen, but eventually, Vlahovic remained.
The Serbia international has since been in excellent form this season, scoring six goals in eight games. But he only has a contract until 2023.
Commisso told his club’s website that Fiorentina had offered Vlahovic a contract that would make him the club’s best-paid player in history.
“Our proposal would have made him the highest paid player in the history of the club,” Commisso said. “However the offer has not been accepted.”
What are Arsenal fans saying about Vlahovic, after a new update?
The Mirror state that Arsenal are looking at Vlahovic – along with Liverpool. The Gunners do need a striker in the coming months.
Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are both out of contract next summer. French striker Lacazette turns 31 next May.
The Frenchman is struggling for game time, only clocking up his second Premier League appearance of the season on Saturday against Brighton.
Nketiah, meanwhile, is even further down the pecking order and some are surprised that he did not depart the Emirates back in the summer.
Arsenal fans have reacted on Twitter to Vlahovic, and Commisso’s comments, and many are desperate for the Gunners to sign him.
